Africans with Global Voices

The Root released its Root 100 2011 List of Influential Black people. On that list are three Africans whose work is creating global converstations. Award winning Nigerian author Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie #74, Zambian born Economist Dambisa Moyo #21 http://www.dambisamoyo.com/ and Architect David Adjaye http://www.adjaye.com/ who was born in Tanzania.

 David Adjaye won the RIBA First Prize Bronze Medal from the Royal Institute of British Architects in 1993. In 2006 he was nominated for the Stirling Prize for his spectacular Whitechapel Idea Store in London. Adjaye later won a competition to design the Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture in Washington, D.C., and was named 2011 Designer of the Year by Design Miami. Recent works include the Museum of Contemporary Art in Denver and the Nobel Peace Center in Oslo.

In her latest book, How the West Was Lost: Fifty Years of Economic Folly — And the Stark Choices Ahead, economist Dambiso Moyo says that China and other emerging world powers are sprinting ahead, and the West’s economic and social complacency portends a reversal of power. Her 2009 book, Dead Aid: Why Aid Is Not Working and How There Is a Better Way for Africa, discussed how aid expands dependency, corruption and instability.
