Back to Africa :Reversal of Brain Drain

In the late 90s and early 2000s there was a general line in certain local circles where they would yell to foreigners, ” Go back to your country”. It seems in 2012 Africans are doing just that as the streams of opportunities dry up overseas they are opening up at home. Funto Akingube started the company www.Findajobinafrica.com.

A change in the political landscape that has led to political stability in countries such as Nigeria, South Africa, Botswana, Namibia have all led to a better business climate that has encouraged many to migrate back home. Technology has helped Africans establish businesses.  Companies in Africa are able to attract talented employees by offering lucrative compensation packages.

Many educated Africans living overseas are overqualified for the positions that they fill. The truth is that many are staying in their jobs because of the current economic conditions. Going back with an opportunity to make real business decisions and putting their education into practice in Africa. The perks such as a company house and car and private schools for the children and 6 weeks paid vacation are the icing on the cake.

Africa is the future and there is no way to get around it. I applaud those who are taking steps to go back now.
