Biles and Douglas Shine at World Championships

The Rio Olympics in 2016 look more and more exciting after Simone and Gabby’s performance. Simone Biles became the first woman to win three consecutive titles at the world championships on Thursday. One step below her on the podium was Gabby Douglas, the first reigning Olympic champ to win a world medal since way back in 1981.

Simone Arianne Biles (born March 14, 1997) is an American artistic gymnast. Biles is a three-time world all-around champion (2013, 2014, and 2015), two-time world floor champion (2013 and 2014), the 2014 world balance beam champion, and a member of the gold-medal-winning American team at the 2014 World Artistic Gymnastics Championships and the 2015 World Artistic Gymnastics Championships. Biles is the first woman to win three consecutive world all-around titles. She is also the first African-American to be world all-around champion. Despite being only three years into her senior career, she is the most decorated American female gymnast in history at the World Championships, with a total of eleven medals, eight of them gold. She is also a three-time United States national all-around champion (2013, 2014, and 2015).

Gabrielle Christina Victoria “Gabby” Douglas (born December 31, 1995) is an American artistic gymnast. As a member of the U.S. Women’s Gymnastics team at the 2012 Summer Olympics, she won gold medals in both the individual all-around and team competitions. Douglas is the first African American woman in Olympic history to become the individual all-around champion, and the first American gymnast to win gold in both the individual all-around and team competitions at the same Olympics as well as being the only American all-around champion to win multiple gold medals. She was also a member of the gold-winning U.S. team at the 2011 World Championships and the 2015 World Championships and the silver medalist in the all-around at the 2015 World Championships, making her the first female reigning Olympic all-around champion to return to worlds and medal in the all-around since Elena Davydova in 1981.
