Who is Loretta Lynch?

The United States Senate has confirmed Loretta Lynch as United States Attorney General, replacing Eric Holder who was the first African American in that position. Her nomination was slow, proving to be the longest in history and despite some opposition from Republicans she has been appointed to the coveted position.

Interesting Facts

  • While in Elementary School she did so well on her standardized tests that she was asked to take them again and did better the second time.
  • In 1977 administrators at Durham High School asked her to share the honor of valedictorian with two other students because they feared the controversy of having a black valedictorian.
  • She turned down a full scholarship from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
  • She does pro bono work for the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda which was established to prosecute those responsible for human right violations during the 1994 genocide.
