Shining City On A Hill: What Africa Can Learn

 

I remember growing up and seeing images on tv about this place called the “Big Apple” with all its glitz and glamour and praying “Oh Lord please take me to America so I can see for myself what I see on tv is this place really real? Of course it is and it’s not paved with gold but its something that one has to experience for themselves. You cannot have America’s democracy without understanding the God of America. Money will not buy the elections just as   China thinks just because it has money it can do whatever it wants to do in Africa. This is not so, Africa is not on sale to the highest bidder.

Now we know that Obama Still Leader of Free World. What can Africa do to position itself to get the greatest return from its relationship with this “Son of Africa”. The first thing that Africans must realize is that Obama is an American and so American Interests come first however we can partner with America and stop the blame game and take responsibility for our actions. Africa must create systems that allow for aid to be dispersed and to fulfill the purpose that it was given. Goals have to be met in the African governments and organizations world so that more aid can come.

The real elephant in the room is DEMOCRACY– government of the people for the people and chosen by the people with checks and balances.

• Elections must be free and fair. There must be freedom of speech and more importantly freedom after speech.
• Results must be released as soon as possible
• There must be a smooth transition of power
• Denounce tribalism, regionalism and nepotism
